Many companies are struggling to convert their workforce over to working remotely in the wake of the pandemic. They are trying to find the best ways and tools to adapt their businesses to changing demands. With so many options and solutions presented to them, many businesses are getting caught up in the technology department and overlooking the human element of it. Not everyone knows where to start when it comes to setting up their workstation for remote work, that's where Contrast Communications can help.
We provide a helpful checklist on 18 Things to Make Your Remote Work Secure, Convenient, and Stress-Free that you can use to simplify the transition to working from home. Here are just three key points that can be found in the checklist:
Take a picture of your computer setup before you unplug and take things to your remote work location - including the cable set up in the back!At home, your IT team won’t be with you to reconnect everything. A quick picture of where things are plugged and arranged may save you hours of frustration later. And don’t forget to use an approved cleaning agent to wipe things down before you disconnect.
Separate your network. When possible, connect your computer to a different network than the rest of your remote location. It may be as simple as using the company VPN to create that secure connection. If you are more technically capable, then separate your company computer from the rest of the computers in your remote work location via a different router or firewall. If your mobile data plan allows for unlimited data, consider using the hot spot on your phone instead of a guest network or your home network.
Ensure secure browser configuration.Google Chrome extensions can be a hotbed for computer viruses. It’s best not to use them at all. However, at the very least, make sure those you are not using are uninstalled. If you’re not sure how to do this, ask your IT professional.
Don't let the transition to working remotely be more stressful and confusing then it needs to be. Make the process simple with our checklist. If you have any questions on remote working or the checklist, send it our way and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
